I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Welsh fashion designer, and recent Uni of Glam graduate, Joanne Terrar a couple of times, and listening to her talk about her collection, the research behind it, what drives her, and the amazing knowledge she has of industry trends and predicting them…..an area I personally find fascinating!
Recently I got the opportunity to see first hand her latest collection and the launch of her brand ‘Terra’. Here’s a bit about the label and what it stands for….then enjoy the beautiful images, which are exquisite, especially the ‘Melt’ series of pastel shades, in my opinion.
‘Terra’, as you may already know is latin for Earth. Terra is a label that combines garment innovation with traditional craft techniques, incorporating the use of recycled materials with quality fabrics and a view to minimal impact on the environment.

The Spring 2011 collection is created using a mix of stretch (jersey and knitted) and non stretch (woven and technical non-woven) fabrics, bias cutting, quilting and distress.
Streamlined into two contrasting themes, half the collection, named ‘Melt’ shows vibrant ice cream colours, mixing retro styling with traditional elements like pearl buttons, slip dresses and high waists with digital prints and linen knits, emmitting an elegant summer vibe.

The other half, named ‘Rust’ uses the bias cut to provide stretch on strict linen tailoring paired with laddered knits and slouchy silks. In a palette of copper, rust, black and grey incorporating handmade corroded penny buttons and distressed metal with various natural hand dye techniques.

Every 6 months will see the launch of a new trans-seasonal collection made up of interchangeable pieces that can be worn alone or layered. The collection is made to order, through sales on the website www.terra-site.com.
Joanne’s work was recently filmed as part of an S4C programme. All photos were taken on and around Penarth Pier by Paul Roberts.

Hi Guys
Just saqw your photoshoot on the pier and wondered if you knew anything about the proposaed restoration. I’m part ofd the youth forum which is trying to get youyng into different aspects of the project including fashion, music, dance – we also have a retro project based around this and the heyday (40-s-50′) of the ballroom there.
I was wondering if you wanted to be involved and why you liked the pier as a location.
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!
